William C. ‘Billy’ Brewer passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on February 4, 2021 after having lived a really good, fun-filled life. He was 88.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was an Eagle Scout and attended Emory University in Atlanta for two years, before leaving to serve in the United States Navy Reserves Medical Corps during the Korean War. Upon his return, he graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1956.
Eager to begin a career, he was hired by the American Heart Association. There he rose through the ranks earning recognition as a top national staff associate for excellence and leadership, while working in North Carolina and New York City. He then moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he fulfilled a 39-year career by becoming the Executive Director of the AHA for the State of Maryland.
After retirement Billy and his partner Ron Coutu moved to East Berlin, PA where they restored an Old Mill as their home, which came with lots of acreage.
Having spent numerous summer vacations in Provincetown, Billy and Ronnie decided to move to Seashore Pointe in 2010. After just one year, and after suffering a brief illness, Ronnie, the love of Billy’s life for 30 years, tragically passed away. Billy and his trusted King Charles Cavalier, “Muffin”, carried on together with zest, friendship and compassion for all with whom they came to know.
Billy, the last of a true southern gentleman, will be lovingly treasured and remembered by his many friends in Provincetown and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Because of the COVID pandemic, a celebration of Billy’s life will take place in the future when it is deemed safe to do so.
