Katherine M. Wilkes, 92, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, February 7, 2021, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Tommy Baker officiating.
Mrs. Wilkes was born March 20, 1928, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Charles D. & Carrie Rowe McDuffie. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary at Robins Air Force Base during World War II. She worked as a bookkeeper for Electric Motor Works and Stone Oil Company for over 30 years. She was a wonderful mother and doting grandmother as well as an excellent cook, seamstress, and homemaker. She was an avid golfer who loved to fish and travel. She was a longtime fan of Braves baseball, dating back to their days in Milwaukee. She was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons: Glenn & Ingrid House of Warner Robins and Don & Glenda Young of Ocilla; a step-son, Marty Wilkes of Atlanta; grandchildren: Robert House IV, and Michael Young; step-grandchildren: Stacy Thompson, Michael Thompson and Jo Shannon Dickson; great-grandchildren: Chad Thompson, Hannah Thompson, Savannah Dickson, Bri Dickson, Keigan Duke, Bree Young, and Macie Young; and great-great-grandchildren: Grayleigh Youngblood, Emma Thompson, and Layla Thompson. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wilkes; a son, Joe Irwin Young, Jr.; and siblings: Nell Taylor, Inez Luther, Robert McDuffie, Charlotte Turner, Wilma Brown, Martha Ellen Kilpatrick, Charles McDuffie, and Theresa Bloom.
