Ernest E. Mello, 84, of Dartmouth passed away Saturday February 6, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Mello) Mello. Son of the late Ernest M. and Frances (Piva) Mello of New Bedford, he is also survived by his children, Gail M. Noonan and her husband Thomas of Plymouth, Susan L. DeGrazia of Acushnet, and Ernest E. Mello, Jr. of Dartmouth; as well as four grandchildren, Ryan Noonan and his wife Jessica Holden, Kayley and her husband James Young, and Cameron and Corey DeGrazia; and one great-granddaughter, Emilia Margaret Young. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Edward Mello and his wife Ruth Ann, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Gilbert Mello, Lorraine Vasconcellos, and Gwen Perry Sullivan, and brother-in-law to the late Inez Mello, Antonio Vasconcellos, Andrew F. Perry, and Kenneth Sullivan.
Ernie was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1954, where he was a member of the ROTC, later serving eight years in the United States Naval Reserves. He then worked as the printing department manager at Continental Screw Company for 25 years until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of St. Julie Billiart Parish in Dartmouth, where he often volunteered making malasadas. He loved cooking and spending time with his family.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday February 10, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church. Due to current gathering restrictions, visitation and burial will be private.
