SHIFFLETT, Edward “Butch” of Braintree, originally from So. Boston, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family, February 4, 2021. 75 years old. Beloved husband for 54 years of Jean (Sullivan) Shifflett of Braintree, originally from So. Boston. Son of the late Evelyn A. and Louis Shifflett. Son in law of the late John J. and Therese M. Sullivan, brother in law of Carol M and the late Robert J. Sullivan of Rochester, NH, William and Eileen Sullivan of Kingston MA. and the late James and Theresa Sullivan of Stoughton, MA and lovingly survived by soooo many nieces, nephews who he considered to be his children. And many dear cousins and friends. “Butch” served his country honorably as a Vietnam Veteran. He was part of the landscape of Southie for more than half a century, from St. Monica’s to the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council. The past Chief Marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade; the past Chapter and State Commander for the Disabled American Veterans; American Legion; the VFW and the Saunder’s Post; from the St. Monica’s Food Pantry, and Monica’s Kitchen to the Good Samaritan Ministry; and from the friends and neighbors in the Gavin Foundation and the recovery community, to virtually every charitable cause or show of patriotism, or act of kindness and generosity in South Boston.
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at St. Monica’s Church, masks and safe distancing to be observed at 331 Old Colony Ave., SOUTH BOSTON, Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 3-7 P.M., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Monica’s Church, Thursday, Feb. 11, at 11 AM.
