Lucy A. Maida
Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother
TEWKSBURY: Lucy A. (Matias) Maida, age 92, a resident of Tewksbury for 15 years, passed away at her home in the care of her family and hospice on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
She was the beloved wife of Vito J. Maida, with whom she celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on May 1, 2020.
Born in Cambridge on November 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Antonette (Gargano) Matias.
Lucy, a devote Catholic, was raised in East Cambridge. She attended St. Francis Parochial Grammar School and graduated from St. Mary of the Annunciation High School in 1946.
Following her wedding, Lucy devoted her life to raising her family, including triple boys. After raising her children in Stoneham they moved to Andover and Tewksbury where she made more lifelong friends.
Throughout the years she and Vito enjoyed many vacations, they travelled to Italy to visit the Vatican, cruised to Alaska, toured much of the United States including Hawaii, but her fondest vacations were spent at their summer home on Country Pond where her family and friends were always welcome. There she enjoyed countless hours where everyone had a great time and wonderful memories were made.
Lucy was a fabulous cook, and she treasured her weekly Sunday dinners with her family. Food was always plentiful; but it wouldn't be Sunday dinner without "Nana's Roni's" and enough leftovers for everyone to take home. She was known for her meatballs, Italian Anisette and Pizzelle cookies and made them with love for countless showers, weddings or just to bring to a casual gathering.
Lucy was genuinely loved by all and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Richard M. Maida and his wife Laura of Maynard, Robert V. Maida and his wife Nancy of Tewksbury, Thomas B. Maida and his wife Sheryl of NC, Paul A. Maida of Hampstead, NH; seven grandchildren, Thomas Maida and his wife Sara, Jeffrey Maida and his wife Madison, Jenna Santana and her husband Cameron, Kristy Forsythe and her husband TJ, Steven Maida and his wife Laura, Matt Maida, and Mike Maida; she leaves seven great grandchildren-who she cherished with all her heart; one brother, Anthony Matias of Cambridge; also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Lucy was the mother of the late Ann Marie Maida and sister of the late Marion Vasquez, Florence Matias and Frances Matias.
