Christine Williams Whitley, 92, of Lenox (Tift County) passed away Friday, February 5, 2021, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Union Grove Church of God with the Rev. Todd Garner officiating. Mrs. Whitley will be laid to rest at Union Grove Church of God Cemetery in Eldorado. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Union Grove Church of God, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the visitation and the funeral service.
Mrs. Whitley’s sons will serve as pallbearers.
Born September 23, 1928 in Berrien County, Mrs. Whitley was the daughter of the late Frank Williams and Fannie James Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Donneal Whitley; a son, Marvin Whitley; two brothers, Curtis Williams and Eugene Williams; and two sisters, Anita Peele and Nadine Pearson. She graduated from Berrien County High School and was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Grove Church of God in Eldorado, where she taught Sunday School for 30 years.
Mrs. Whitley is survived by five sons, Allen Whitley of Berrien County, Ernie Whitley of Columbus, Wendell Whitley of Americus, Lamar Whitley of Orlando, Florida and Glenn Whitley of Columbus; two daughters, Elaine Mosley of Jasper and Brenda Welch of Danridge, Tennessee; one brother, Ralph Williams of West Berrien; one sister, Alma Richardson of West Berrien; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
