Passed away at High Pointe House hospice care facility in Haverhill, Massachusetts on 2 February 2021 at the age of 88. Wife of beloved late husband of 63 years, Robert Mace Leavitt, Dorothy leaves behind her children, daughter Diane Mace (Leavitt) Kinner and her husband, Douglas Kinner of Kissimmee, Fla.; son Robert Ballard Leavitt and his wife Chongyin (Yang) Leavitt of Falls Church, Va.; son Daniel Patrick Leavitt of Leominster, Mass.; and baby daughter, Louise (who passed in infancy) along with 3 loving grandchildren, Hailey Leavitt, Lucas Daniel Leavitt, and Gabrielle Leavitt. Born in Hyde Park (Boston), daughter of the late Martin J. and Mabel (Whittemore) Lynch, Dorothy grew up in a large Irish-American family of 5 girls and 2 boys and attended Gates of Heaven Church and School in South Boston. She later moved with her family to Woburn, Mass. and graduated from Woburn High School before working as a bank teller at the First National Bank of Boston. The "Lady Dorothy" was a devoted wife and mother to her adoring family raised in Arlington, Peabody, and Greenfield, Massachusetts. In later years, Dorothy and her husband, Robert M., relocated to Cape Cod and spent many happy years in Brewster, where she was an avid member of the Brewster Garden Club, and Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts. Dorothy had an enduring and passionate love of all animals and devoted much of her time and resources to the protection of wildlife. Visiting hours are at the O'Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street, Taunton, Mass. from 10 - 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 9 February 2021. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne, Massachusetts where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband, Robert M. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Taunton Animal Shelter, 821 West Water Street, Taunton, Massachusetts.
