Obituary

Robert D. Sylvia, 76, of New Bedford passed on February 3, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital due to complications of Covid-19.
He was born in Acushnet in 1944, the beloved son of the late John and Hazel (Cannon) Sylvia. He was the loving father of Shannon Sylvia and father-in-law of Peggy Sylvia.
Bob loved sports, especially his local teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed smoking a good cigar with his friends. Bob pitched 5 decades of softball in various Acushnet and Mattapoisett leagues.
He was formerly employed at Freddy Dee's Narragansett Sales and United Liquors.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966.
He is also survived by his loved ones, Cynthia Mitchell; his brother, Richard Sylvia and his wife Lorraine; his sister, Carol Colvin and her husband Fred; his grandsons, Dylan Sylvia, Asher Deneault and Gryffin Deneault; his step-daughter, Ariel Mitchell-Denault and her husband Matthew;several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many close friends that he loved dearly. He will be missed for his big personality, his many stories and his jokes.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no visiting hours and his funeral will be private. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
