Obituary

Stanley (Stan) A. Rawson, Jr., of Bridgewater (formerly from Abington) passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021, at the age of 77.

He was a loving son to Stan Sr. and Mable and brother to Pat (Irene) and Linda. Stan was a devoted husband of 43 years to Gerri, raising 5 children together, Linda, Bill, Neil, Julie and Carolyn. He was father-in-law to Kevin, John and Mike, grandfather to Bill, Tim, Todd, Jaime, Leah, Neil, Andy, Eric, Mary, Olivia, Audrey, Johnny, Sean, Evan, Kaitlyn and Brady, and great grandpa to Evan, Lucas, Lilly, Charlotte, Aria and Maverick, uncle to the Darche and Keckler clans, and a lifelong friend to Rob Purtle and many others.

Stan grew up in Squantum, MA and attended North Quincy High. In 1960, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

He was a faithful Marine and Patriot, committed to a life of service to his country and community, where he served many years volunteering for the USMC Toys for Tots. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion, led the local color guard and was a caretaker for the Veteran’s section at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington.

A Boston sports fan to the core, he loved his Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox and enjoyed cheering them on with friends and family and a cold Coors Light or 2…

He was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed get togethers and bbqs where he had his family gathered together in one place. He was not a typical weekly churchgoer, but he would often give a nod to the “man upstairs” and always loved a good rendition of “I don’t care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus riding on the dashboard of my car”.

Stan lived a simple life and didn’t need a lot of pomp and circumstance to be happy. He enjoyed the simples pleasures of life… like a quality-crafted toothpick, a broken-in pair of Levis, a comfy pair of loafers and the Boston Herald.

Other than his family, there was nothing that filled him with pride more than having served 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was deeply proud of his service, yet humbled by his time spent overseas.

A private service will be held for his family at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, followed by a private burial at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toys for Tots (toysfortots.org) in Stan’s name.

You are loved and will be missed…
