Barrows, Elaine (Johnson)
Of Millbury, age 93, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021 in Life Care Center of Leominster. She was born in Worcester to J. Ernest and Ellen Johnson. She graduated from Commerce High School. She attended Boston University then graduated from Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. She had a long career as a registered nurse, primarily in the Worcester offices of Dr. Millen and later Dr. Amaral. She also served as secretary to the board of Directors for Colony Retirement homes. She was active in the Greendale Peoples Church, VASA Nordic Lodge in Worcester and in the Scandinavian Athletic Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Her nursing skills were appreciated whenever a neighborhood kid skinned a knee or needed stitches removed. She loved to knit and sew doll’s clothes to raise money for the church. Her Swedish meatballs were eaten by scores to raise money for SAC Auxiliary scholarships. She loved doing crossword puzzles, her crossword dictionary is well worn. She loved to sew, hook rugs, knit, embroider and crochet all kinds of gifts for her grandchildren. She and her second husband Bob spent many winters making friends at Raintree RV Resort in Fort Meyers Florida. He taught her to help write skits that they would perform together at amateur nights. She taught him to dance traditional dances at SAC.
She was predeceased by her first husband Ernest Blom and also her second husband Robert Barrows. She is survived by three sons, Eric, Douglas and Mark Blom. She was “Farmor” to five grandchildren, Lucas Blom, Daisey (Blom) Carroll, David, Brandan and Kristofer Blom. She also leaves five great grandchildren, Christian, Lilliana and Harrison Blom, Wilhemina and Henrietta Carroll. She was stepmother to Christine (Barrows) Larson, Robert, Roy and Lorene Barrows. Also step grandmother to Andrea Wilson, April Perez, Adam Larson (deceased), Alex Larson, Leanna and Leandra Barrows.
There are no services at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at SAC, 438 Lake St, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 at some time after covid restrictions are relaxed.
