Obituary

Carmela Imaculata (Sabatino) Febbo passed away at home in the company of her loving family on Saturday, January 31st. She was 66. The daughter of the late Armando and Emanuela (Martignetti) Sabatino, she was born and spent her earliest years in Montefalcione, Avellino, Italy. Her family immigrated to England before coming to the United States. She lived in Boston’s North End before eventually settling in Somerville. Carmela worked as a waitress in the North End for many years and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Although she worked as a waitress, she was primarily concerned with her family. She was an outstanding cook and everyone was welcome at her table. Possessed of a heart of gold, she was tremendously generous toward others.

The beloved mother of Joseph Febbo and his fiancée Shannon Megan of Somerville, Carmela was a loving grandmother to Giana Marie Febbo. She was the devoted sister of Annette Serrao and her husband Eddie, Silvana Sabatino and her fiancé John Moore, Felix Sabatino and his wife Kerry, Billy Sabatino, and Vinnie Sabatino and his wife Judy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Carmela’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, February 9th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Hanover St., Boston’s North End at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family on Monday 4 - 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Carmela’s name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Division of Development/Jimmy Fund, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
