It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Stephen Smead. Stephen Smead was born on November 15, 1959 in Boston Massachusetts. As a child Stephen resided in Wrentham State School and later came to join Work Inc. On September 1, 1989 Stephen joined the Work Inc. Glen Echo residential house. Stephen lived a very happy life in his home and received great care until his death.
Stephen was very sociable man. Stephen was nonverbal; however, anyone could understand him through his expressions and gestures. Stephen could be very humorous at times. The staff at the residence fondly referred to Stephen as “The Boss”. Stephen loved to watch baseball and all other sports. Stephen enjoyed going into the community with his housemates and staff.
Stephen was able to do some traveling through his life. Stephen visited Cape Cod, Rhode Island, Cleveland Ohio, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, and Vermont. Stephen also flew to Florida and Las Vegas. Stephen attended the day program art Habitation Assistance Corporation in Braintree, Massachusetts where he had many friends.
Stephen passed away at New England Sinai Hospital on January 24, 2021 peacefully in his sleep.
Stephen has the most contagious smile that would touch many people throughout his life including those of his housemates and staff at the residential home. Stephen is survived by his housemates/family; Charles, Alvin, Dennis, Joey, and a staff that truly loved him. I would like to take one minute to personally thank all the staff and Stephen’s team, you have all done a fabulous job caring for him. Comments of respect can be sent to the Glenecho email address [email protected].
