Christina G. (Gartaganis) Gargas, 93, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday January 20, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Peter T. Gargas.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John A. and Maria J. (Moutsopoulou) Gartaganis, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. Each year she enjoyed spending time at her penthouse apartment in Athens, Greece with her husband and brother.
A graduate of New Bedford High School and Pembroke College at Brown University, she had formerly worked as a school teacher in Framingham.
Mrs. Gargas was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She had also been a member of the College Club of New Bedford, the New Bedford Garden Club, and the Wamsutta Club.
She is survived by several cousins, her devoted caregivers, and her devoted cat, Aritusa.
She was the sister of the late Arthur J. Gartaganis, who passed away three days after Christina.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 4, 2021 at 11 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Cross Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
