Obituary

Zelma Sirmans Hargett, 99, of Tifton passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at her residence. A private, family graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Hargett at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Elder Craig DeLoach will officiate. Covid-19 guidelines will be followed during the graveside service.

Courtney Howell, Chuck Powell, Chad Alexander, Luke Alexander, Chad Brooks, Matt Davis, Jason Stone and Todd Stone will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Deryck Perkins, Freddie Walker, Felton Hayes, Mo Clements, Rufus Wilkerson, Stephen Drawdy, Alan Lewis, David McGee and Tifton Primitive Baptist Church deacons and members.

Born July 6, 1921 in Irwin County, Mrs. Hargett was the daughter of the late George Washington Sirmans and Eunie Whitley Sirmans Talley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Luke Hargett, Sr.; one son, R. L. “Sonny” Hargett, Jr.; one grandson, Wayne Davis; four brothers, Leon Sirmans, George Sirmans, Kenny Sirmans and Gene Sirmans; and one sister, Wilmoth Sirmans. She was a homemaker and a member of Tifton Primitive Baptist Church for 65 years. She was looking forward to her 100th birthday and she enjoyed sewing and doll-making.

Mrs. Hargett is survived by one son and his wife, Richard and JereAnna Hargett of Sparks; a daughter-in-law, Gail Hargett of Tifton; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Ann Hargett, Nelda Powell, Rosemary and Rodney Alexander, Clarice and Tobie Sumler and Janice and Larry Dees, all of Tifton; two sisters, Zereta Alsobrook of Tifton and Mary Bruce of Rutledge; a sister-in-law, Sue Sirmans of Chula; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Beverly and Al Fernandez, Cindy and Todd Stone, Kathy and Jamie Posey, Chad and Stephanie Alexander, Chuck and Paige Powell, Julie Powell, Jacey and Chad Brooks, Courtney and Amy Howell, LeAnne and Mahmod Panahi, Karla Hargett, Laura Beth Sumler and her fiance’ Andy Seltzer and Anna Kate Sumler and her fiance’ Lake Thomas; seventeen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hargett’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her special care-giver, Tameka Royster and the staff of Georgia Living Senior Home Care and Hospice of Tift Area for their special care of Mrs. Hargett.
