Alfred “Fred” Balentine Jr., 82, of Rockland Massachusetts passed away on this day, January 29, 2021, at St. Anns Hospital, Fall River, Massachusetts.
Born April 1938, he was raised in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. Eldest of Sara Lois (Kohler) and Alfred T. Balentine and brother to Ruth (Balentine) Carlson of Vermont, Gilbert, and Bruce Balentine of Iowa.
At age sixteen Fred started running equipment and after high school he joined the National Guard where he learned to drive tanks. Later he joined the Teamsters, Local 379, becoming a “heavy hauler”, driving the lowbed, for Dwyer Construction for twenty years. Finally retiring from P.A Landers where he had been a “dozer” operator for twenty years.
Throughout his life, Fred was an avid water skier and loved boating. Other hobbies included photography, guitar, listening to music, and driving his mustangs. He could also tell you how to fix just about anything and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Fred and the love of his life, wife of 45 years, Carol A. (Johnson) Balentine, who also passed away the 29th of January in the year 2005, moved to Rockland in the early 1960’s where they raised their three children; Joyce of East Bridgewater, Denise of Carver, and Steven A. Balentine of Whitman. Fred was a very loving and devoted grandfather to Merisa and Beauden of Whitman, Trystan Anthony of Abington, and Kaitlyn of East Bridgewater. Wonderful father-in-law to Courtney (Leffler) Balentine and Rusty of Carver. He will be greatly missed by all.
