Christopher J. O’Byrne Jr., age 83, of Abington passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Chris was born, raised, and educated in Brockton. After graduating Brockton High School in 1956, he attended Bridgewater State College where he earned degree in teaching. Chris spent 30 years doing what he loved most, teaching math to students as it related to the world around them at South Weymouth High School. After retiring Chris and Joan moved to Florida to enjoy his retirement and a few rounds of golf. They later returned to Abington to spend the rest of their time with friends and family.
Chris is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joan O’Byrne (Cranshaw) of Abington, his children Teresa Bergolsen and her husband Paul of FL, Deborah Hayward and her husband Jim of Halifax, Cindy Roberts and her husband Fred of NV, Chris O’Byrne III and his wife Susan of Rockland, and Kathy Manning and her husband John of FL, and his stepchildren Cindy Travi and her husband Vinnie of Brimfield, Stephen Thompson of Fall River, Scott Thompson of Weymouth, and the late Kenny Thompson. Chris is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Chris on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 2-3pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Due to the current viral crisis, the funeral service for Chris will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.ALZ.org.
