Obituary

On Thursday, January 14th, 2021, Cheryl Lea Lyle passed away after a short bout with cancer and a long, amazing life.

Cheryl was born to Harold and Jane McKnett on January 18th, 1946, in Liberal, Kansas. Her family shortly returned to Southern California, settling in Ventura in 1955. She graduated Buena High School in 1963. She moved on to Ventura College before transferring to San Diego State, where she graduated in 1967. Cheryl briefly worked as a parole officer upon leaving college, before beginning her career at the Ventura County Department of Child Support Services where she worked until her retirement in 2012. Cheryl was recognized many times by supervisors and colleagues for the excellence of her work and her excellent character. She was always honest, empathetic, and loyal.

Cheryl had two sons, Thomas and Gregory, in 1972 and 1973, respectively. Cheryl dedicated herself to supporting her family. She took several years off work to raise her boys while they were young. Cheryl was deeply involved in her sons’ interests, from keeping score at Little League games to helping with the Buena football boosters. Cheryl loved her family without reservation. Cheryl is survived by her brother, Tom McKnett, her two sons, Tom and Greg, her two daughters-in-law, Maria and Jodi, and 4 grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Samantha, and Joshua.

Cheryl was a faithful Christian, a dedicated mother, a loving grandmother, and a loyal friend. We love you, and we will miss you. Till we meet again in the morning, just inside the Eastern Gate.

A service will be held at 11 A.M. on February 6th at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
