Anthony M. Bono passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family on Sunday. He was 88. Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Boston’s North End, he was the son of the late Vincent and Lucy (Sclafani) Bono. Anthony was a stand-out football player at Brighton High School and later went on to study at Bentley University. He worked as a commercial fisherman in Boston as a young man and later enjoyed a 45 year career in the seafood division at Star Market. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Anthony enjoyed spending time with his family. He and Susan, his wife of 59 years, loved to travel and looked forward to annual trips to Las Vegas and the Caribbean. Anthony was a decent and hardworking man, who will be missed by those who knew him.
The beloved husband of Susan (Termine) Bono, Anthony was a devoted father to Lucia Schurko and her husband David, and Christopher Bono. He was a loving grandfather to Gregory Bono and his wife Stephanie, Jacquelyn, Alexa, Anthony and Christian Schurko and Angelica Bono. He was a loving great-grandfather to Alanna, Audrina and Christopher. He was a dear brother to Josephine Frate and her late husband Joseph, the late Augustus Bono and his surviving wife Chickie, Joseph Bono and his wife Mary, Frank Bono and his wife Vicky, Vincent Bono and his wife Rebecca, and the late Nina Esposito. Anthony is also survived by his sister-in-law Rosalie Travelo, many nieces and nephews and his dog Gia.
Anthony’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday January 30th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Friday January 29th from 4 – 8 PM.
