Manuel N. Serpa, 84, of New Bedford passed away Monday January 25, 2021 from complications of Covid-19. He was the husband of the late Manuela (Silva) Serpa.
Born in Pico, Azores, the son of the late Manuel and Serafina (Medeiros) Serpa, he lived in New Bedford since 1968.
While living in St. Michael, Azores, Madeira, and Lisbon, Manuel was employed as a police officer. After arriving in the United States, he worked as a milkman for Gulf Hill Dairy, then as a macine operator at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and finally at Kyler’s Seafood until his retirement.
Manuel was a devoted family man.
He is survived by two sons, Michael S. Serpa and his wife Jacqueline, and Rui N. Serpa, all of New Bedford; two sisters, Gabriella DaRosa of Maryland and Irondina Pimental of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, Samantha, Bethany, Rebecca, Christina, and James; a great-grandson, Nicholas; and nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Jose Serpa.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday January 28, 2021 from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Due to current gathering restrictions, his funeral service and burial will be private. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
