Our beloved, Stanley F. Harris, Jr. (“Standing Oak”) went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2021 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Ct. He was born on December 20, 1938 in Willimantic, Ct. to Stanley F. Harris, Sr. and Marion Sebastian-Curry.
Stanley was an elder and proud War Chief of the Mashantucket (Western) Pequot Tribal Nation. He worked within the Tribal Government and also served as Secretary of the Elders Council. He was a Mechanical Engineer at Electric Boat, a Design Engineer at PNL Hanford Nuclear site in Washington State and lent his expertise in various locations in and out of the country.
He most enjoyed wood-working, hunting, fishing, refurbishing cars. He was the head coach of a boxing club, which was a tool for counseling youth.
He was known to lend an ear or give his advice while never missing an opportunity to teach the power of prayer, being sure to note the importance of relationship with the Creator. He was known as “Uncle Bucky” by his nieces and nephews; he had many titles throughout his life both personal and professional but he is most proud to be called a warrior of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Alice Harris who he married 60 years ago on February 27, 1960, daughter, Tina M. Freeman, sons Stanley F. Harris III, Brandon Harris, sisters Marion Hatcher, Shirley Treffers, Reatha Jenkins, brothers Pedro Johnson, Calvin Harris, 8 grand children and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by Paul Harris (brother) and Hannah Marshall who was a special woman in his life.
Stanley touched many people in his life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral Services and burial in the Pequot Spiritual Burial Ground were held on Monday, January 25.
