Denis J. Slater, age 77, a 50-year resident of Winchester, passed away on January 23, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Geraldine E. “Gerry” (Hamilton) Slater.
Born in Boston, Denis was raised and educated in Medford and was a graduate of Medford Vocational High School, where he was President of the Student Council. A lifelong electrician, Mr. Slater owned Slater Electric in Winchester, and was employed for many years by the Town of Winchester as the Wiring Inspector for the Building Dept.
In his spare time, he coached youth hockey when his kids were growing up, played golf and was an avid Bruins fan. He could also be found enjoying Saturday morning breakfast with his lifelong friends. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his wife and children, and was a loving and devoted grandfather to his nine grandchildren. A devout Catholic, Denis was a member of St. Mary’s Parish for many years, and was proud that his children celebrated their sacraments there.
In addition to his wife, Gerry, Denis is lovingly survived by his children: Scott Slater (Cynthia) of Wayland, Jill (Colin) McCabe of Burlington, and Denise Dalaklis of Winchester. He was the cherished grandfather of Justin, Ashley, Cassidy and Alexa Slater, Connor, Devin and Kayleigh McCabe, Dylan and McKenna Dalaklis, the dear brother of Ronald Slater of Winchester, Maureen Slater of Stoneham and Helen Taddeo of Medford, and is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to briefly visit with the family at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wednesday, January 27 from 4-7PM, and are reminded to enter through the front door and exit the back door, wear face masks and practice social distancing.
