Ethel Chitwood Mills, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, January 22, 2021, at PruittHealth in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Private graveside memorial services will be held for immediate family only.
Mrs. Mills was born December 25, 1936, in Lula, Georgia, to the late Robert & Estelle Barnwell Chitwood. She was a machine operator with Modern Fibers & Shaw Industries. Her joys in life included gathering with her extended family for good food and fellowship, having her great-grandchildren at her house, and watching old Westerns on TV. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County.
She is survived by her children: Bruce Shearer (Laura) of Albany, Georgia and Sandra Carroll (Perry) of Fitzgerald, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Brenda Shearer of Snellville, Georgia; grandchildren: Phillip Shearer (Larissa), Brent Shearer (Courtney), Scott Shearer, Rebecca Nutt (Jeremiah), Quincy Carroll, (Laura), Jesse Carroll, and Jennifer Gude (Leo); 12 great-grandchildren: Sara Ann Nutt, Johnny Nutt, Jeff Nutt, Emma Nutt, Chase Carroll, Alley Carroll, Madison Carroll, Brooke Carroll, Keira Davenport, Croix Shearer, Lot Shearer, and Ollivander Gude; and siblings: Mary Ruth Henderson of the Lands Crossing Community, her twin sister-Evelyn Manix of Valparaiso, Florida, and Kathryn Davis (Wayne) of Greer, South Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lige Thomas “L.T.” Mills; two children: Wayne Shearer and Roxanne Shearer; and siblings: Hoyt Chitwood, Charlie Chitwood, and Ralph Chitwood.
