Michael P. Fitzgerald, 57

Dateline: Norton, MA

Michael P. Fitzgerald, age 57, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. He was the beloved longtime companion of Melissa Dineen.

Born in Daytona, Florida on July 3, 1963, he was a loving son of the late Theresa (Masterson) Mendoza and the late Robert Fitzgerald.

Mike grew up in Norton and was educated in Norton Public Schools. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard for six years.

Mike spent the majority of his working career as a talented carpenter. For the past seven years, he was employed by the Williams Building Company, where he was well liked and well respected by his fellow workers.

To say that Michael was a great father would truly be an understatement. His children, whom he proudly raised on his own, were the center of his world. His strong work ethics helped provide for his family and the love he gave them will be imbedded in their hearts for forever.

A Harley Davidson enthusiast, Mike’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, vacationing in New Hampshire and playing guitar. At the time of his death, he was anticipating the birth of his sixth grandchild.

He is survived by his devoted children: Amanda Fitzgerald of Attleboro, Jessica Fitzgerald of Norton, Michael Fitzgerald of Plainville, Daniel Fitzgerald of Norton and Melanie Fitzgerald of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Brayden, Karsen, Olivia, Nyah and Brooke. He was the dear brother of Shelley Mowry of Norton, Barbara Souza of East Taunton, Robert Fitzgerald of Norton, Lisa Tumminello of Florida, Richard Fitzgerald of Bellingham and Jack Fitzgerald of Norton. He was the adoring stepson of Anthony Mendoza of Norton and is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, January 26th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

His graveside funeral service, along with military honors will be held on Wednesday, January 27th at 11:00 A.M. at the Timothy Plain Cemetery on Plain Street in Norton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory may be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St., unit 2601, Boston, MA 02108.
