SPRINGFIELD – Leelan J. "Lee" Beaulieu, 74, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on April 29, 1946, a beloved son of the late Jean and Rita (Fontaine) Beaulieu. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School, and moved to Springfield in 1966 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed at Moore Drop Forge in Springfield and previously was employed at Federal Tool and Die in Suffield, CT and Bourdon Forge in Middletown, CT. He most especially enjoyed driving School Bus for the Chicopee Public Schools as well as driving for Peter Pan Bus Lines in Springfield. For over 28 years, he was a referee and coach for both the Pioneer Valley Youth Soccer and the Springfield Youth Soccer Leagues. He also enjoyed testing his luck on the penny slots at Foxwoods Casino. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Mary Ann (Gwozdz) Beaulieu. They were married on June 8, 1968 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 52 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Stephen M. Beaulieu of Springfield and his companion, Martha Linn, of Chicopee, Christine A. Beaulieu and her fiancé, Jeffrey Comeau, of Ludlow, and David J. Beaulieu and his wife, Rebecca, of Springfield; his two cherished granddaughters, Gabrielle and Charlotte Beaulieu; his brother-in-law, Retired Rev. Thomas Gwozdz, SDB of Tampa, FL; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John F. Gwozdz and his wife, Mary. His burial will be private with United States Army Military Honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
