Richard R. Barone, 74, of Cranston, died Thursday, January 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the companion of Valerie Melone.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Evelyn (Piro) Barone. He had lived in Cranston for 25 years and had previously lived in Providence.
Richard was a self-employed antique dealer and also worked as a general contractor. He also worked as a mortgage broker, a night club manager, a jewelry designer, a suit salesman... You name it, he sold it, or built it, or rebuilt it, or designed it, or redesigned it.
Quite charismatic, Richard was a true one of a kind. To know him was to love him, and if you knew him, you undoubtedly have a funny, amazing, or fantastic story to tell. He loved to gamble and had a fearless approach toward both life and death. Very courageous, Richard battled his illness and pain like a warrior.
Besides Valerie, he is survived by his sons: Richard R. Barone, Jr. of Miami, FL, Nicholas R. Barone of Johnston, Angelo G. St. Laurent of Johnston, and his sisters: Veronica Martish of Davenport, FL and Evelyn Barone of Cranston. He was the brother of the late Rocco Barone.
His funeral Mass will be held Thursday. Due to COVID regulations the mass and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904. www.hopehealthco.org
