Obituary

William H. Smith, 78, of New Bedford died March 16, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Margaret (Dutra) Smith.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Clinton H. and Gladys R. (Merrick) Smith, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Smith was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford at the Elm St. Garage for many years until his retirement.
In 2002, his was a special honoree inducted into the New Bedford High School for his many years of service to the athletic Department. He also coached Little League Baseball in New Bedford and youth football in New Bedford and Fairhaven.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; 2 brothers, Carl Smith of Texas and Clinton H. Smith, Jr. of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Evelyn Aguiar, Patricia Carreiro and Katherine Sherman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Monday, March 20th at 12 Noon.
Visiting hours Sunday, March 19th from 4-8 PM.
Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Bedford High School Gridiron Club, 230 Hathaway Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02740.
