WORCESTER___Majella J. (Couture) Tauras, 102, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2021, at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester.
She was born in Worcester on August 26, 1918 and attended Worcester schools. She spent part of her early childhood living in Canada. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Eva Couture, her husband, Alexander J. Tauras, her infant daughter, Nina Tauras, her two sisters, Bella Dumont and Stella Boucher, and a brother, Gerard Couture.
She leaves six sons: James (Angela), John, Daniel (Cecelia), Thomas (Aisuluu), Alexander, and Joseph (Hana) Tauras; three daughters, Susan Capalbo (Joseph), Therese Goulet, and Marie Gagnon, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Majella will be remembered for her devout faith in God and the Catholic Church, her devotion to family, her love of books, music and animals, and her sense of humor and fun. Majella instilled in her children a strong work ethic and a willingness to strive for a better world. She was proud that some of her children served in the U. S. Military with honor and dignity, and that one of her granddaughters, Anna Tauras, is a godchild of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
One of her shining moments was receiving the Key to the City of Worcester from Mayor Joseph Petty on the occasion of her 100th birthday in 2018. She also received a Papal Blessing from the offices of Pope Francis.
Calling hours for Majella will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester with consideration to limitations related to COVID-19. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 9:30 AM at St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. in Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
