DIGHTON – Maria Conceicao Barboza, 101 of Dighton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021 in the comforts of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Ponta Garça, São Miguel, Açores, Maria was the daughter of the late Norberto J. & Concepcion (Ferreira) Medeiros and the wife of the late Manuel Barboza.
Prior to retiring, Maria worked for Bristol Knitting Mills for many years. Since emigrating to the US in 1957, Maria has lived on her husband’s farm, which has been in the family since 1909, where she developed her love for gardening & farming. She enjoyed raising the many animals that were on the farm, especially the pigs and chickens, where at the age of 85, she was still gathering eggs. Maria had a love for all animals, but especially loved spending time with kids.
She is survived by her children: Norberta Melville (husband David) and John Barboza (companion Theresa Roderick) all of Dighton; grandchildren: Adam Melville & Carol Ann Barboza; great grandchildren: Blaze & Gage Souza; many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews; and great-great nieces & nephews. Maria was the sister of the late Manuel & Joseph Medeiros, Cecilia Furtado, Honorina Vieira, Irodina Andrade, & Piedade Morais.
Maria’s funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Saturday, Jan. 23rd with a funeral mass in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, 499 Spring St., N. Dighton, MA at 10:00 A.M. Private Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours on Friday, Jan. 22nd from 4-8 P.M.
