SPENCER: George Richard Kay, 87, of Spencer, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 16th at St. Vincent Hospital, after a brief illness.
George was born on July 14, 1933 to James R. and Alice N. (Bowers) Kay in Chicago and graduated from North High School in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 62 years Joyce C. (Ring) Kay, three sons; Ralph W. Kay and his wife Ada of North Brookfield, Randy J. Kay and his wife Cindy of Warren , Douglas W. Kay and his wife Jane of Brookfield. He was called Grampa by ten grandchildren; Sarah, Timothy, Matthew, Heather, Matthew, Tanya, Kristopher, Jeremy, Aimee and Tiffany. George also had fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie (Kay) Robertson of Estes Park Colorado.
George served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a member of the FreeMasons and former Captain for the Spencer Rescue Squad. He worked at Millbrook Inc. in Worcester and retired from FLEXcon Co. in Spencer.
Community minded, George was the President of Spencer Little League, coached minor league baseball, served on numerous town committees and started the first youth center in Spencer. He was an avid cheerleader for his children and grandchildren at all of their events.
The family would like to express a special Thank You to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to this wonderful man. Due to Covid-19 concerns, services will be held privately for the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Leicester. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Spencer Rescue Squad Inc., 6 Bixby Road, Spencer, Ma. 01562.
