Obituary

SALEM- Walter J. Andruszkiewicz, Sr., 87, husband of Sophia C. (Sowinski) Andruszkiewicz,, of Salem, died Friday morning, July 19, 2002, in the Beverly Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Balin) Andruszkiewicz.

An Army veteran of WWII, he served with the Americal Division in South Pacific including at Guadalcanal and attained the rank of Tec/5. He was a member of the South Pacific Buddies.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Henry Leather in Peabody for 30 years, and was the president of the International Leather Workers Union, Local 21 in Peabody.

A resident of Salem for most of his life, he was a parishioner of the St John The Baptist Church, president of the St Joseph Society, PRCU, president of the St Anthony Society, member of the Polish Falcons, Nest 188, the Polish American Citizens Club, the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 55, and the VFW, Witch City Post 1524, all of Salem.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Andruszkiewicz of Danvers, two grandchildren, Vicki Lyn and Tina Lyn Andruszkiewicz, both of Danvers, two brothers and their wives, Adolph and Helen Andruszkiewicz of Peabody, John and Joan Andruszkiewicz of Salem, one sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Bernard Stankus of Salem, a sister-in-law, Apolonia Andruszkiewicz of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Walter J. Andruszkiewicz, Jr and brother of the late Stephen Andruszkiewicz.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St John The Baptist Church, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Monday, 4 to 8 pm. Burial is in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton.
