Richard H. “Dick” Brown, Sr., 86, of Dartmouth passed away Friday January 15, 2021 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Elaine M. (Ferreira) Brown; they had been married for 65 years.
Born in Wellsville, NY, the son of the late Albert L. Brown and Joetta (Hoover) Hulse, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Dick was formerly employed as a machine operator at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 35 years until his retirement.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion in Dartmouth, the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans Dr C.E. Burt Chapter 7, the Goodyear Seniors, and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, where he had served as Secretary and Director. In his younger years, he was an avid softball player having played in the Workingmen’s League.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; three children, Catherine M. Brasells of New Bedford, Richard H. Brown, Jr. and his wife Christine of Fairhaven, and Diane E. Brown of Maine; his siblings, Thomas Brown, Janice McNinch, Sandra Cooper, and Patricia Hayward; three grandchildren, Stacy Afonso and her husband Manuel, Brian Brasells, and Eric Brasells and his companion Beckie Anderson; his great-grandson, Brady Varao; and nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
He was predeceased by his brother Walter Brown.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday January 20, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church. Due to current gathering restrictions, his visitation and burial in Riverside Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
