Remo Gino Avellani, Sr., age 81, of Somerville passed away on Monday, January 11. Born in Tione degli Abruzzi, Italy, he was the son of the late Renato and Leondina (Camilli) Avellani (Birth Mother) and Anna (Giamarco) Avellani (Step-Mother). He immigrated to the U.S. in 1958 and settled in Boston’s North End. Remo proudly served in the United Sates Army stationed in Fort Carson (Colorado) before moving to Somerville in the mid-1960’s. He retired from Simkins/Harvard Folding Box Company where he worked for over 50 years in supervisory roles. Remo enjoyed gardening, hunting, tending to his grapevines and making wine. He was considered a staple in his neighborhood. He had a love of German Shepherds and was a member of the Fitchburg Sportsmen’s Club.
Remo was the beloved husband of Pierina (Massaro) Avellani for over 56 years. He was the devoted father of Linda Libro and her husband Evan of Billerica, Angela Avellani-Oddi and her husband Frank of Hyde Park, Remo Avellani Jr.of Somerville and Peter Avellani of Methuen. Remo was the loving Nonno of Elizabeth, Joseph, Cameron, Nicholas, Donatella, Francesca and Chloe, and the dear brother of the late Anna Trionfi, Lino Avellani of Medford, Adelina Coppola of Andover, the late Dominic Avellani, Rena Cincotta of Saugus, and Dina Trebbe of Marco Island, Florida. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, on Wednesday, January 20 at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 9 – 10:30 AM at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. Services will conclude with entombment at Woodlawn Mausoleum, Everett. . Social distancing protocols will be enforced. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Remo’s name to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
