On January 2, 2021, Rene Jude Aubertin passed away surrounded by his family after having been diagnosed with Glioblastoma. He was 59 years old.
Son of pre-deceased George and Grace Aubertin, he lived most of his life in Salem, Massachusetts. He was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa and San Diego. Upon discharge, he earned a degree in Culinary Arts at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute and went on to graduate from Salem State College with a degree in Finance. He worked at several local restaurants, including the Hilltop and eventually became a mortgage broker and real estate developer, having owned his own Homevestors franchise.
Rene had a zest for life and never missed an opportunity to enjoy it. His quick wit and generosity made him many friends. He was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He loved talking sports and politics. He was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining and feeding friends and family, and there was always room at the table for those in need. He loved family gatherings and always looked forward to visiting with the grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, brother Marc Aubertin and his husband, Michael Kleinschmidt of Seattle, Washington, stepdaughter Kimberly (Bailey) D’Entremont and husband, David, along with their children Kailey, Chloe, and Andrew of Merritt Island, Florida, stepdaughter Erica (Bailey) Cledes and husband Jason, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, along with her children Alec and Natashia, and stepdaughter Darcy Bailey-Smith and former son-in-law, Shawn Smith and their children, Brady and Andrew of Gambrills, Maryland. He also leaves his best friend, Ken Wilson, of Salem.
He will be truly missed. RIP, Rene!

Rene will have calling hours on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M in the funeral home, A Celebration of Life will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, the 10th at 10:00 A.M. followed by burial in the Veterans Section of Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. A Memorial Luncheon will be held at the Hawthorne Hotel following burial. All guests must must wear facial protection and maintain social distancing.
