Fall River – Mary Freitas, 98, a lifelong resident of Fall River, passed away peacefully from Covid on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at St. Anne’s Hospital. Mary was the wife of the late Joseph C. Freitas Jr. and the daughter of the late Dennis & Aldina Santos.
Prior to retiring, Mary worked as a Uniform Presser for the old Union Hospital, now Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, a member of the Holy Ghost Club and North-End Seniors Center, in her past time, she loved to knit, play bingo at the North-end Seniors Center and going to Foxwoods. Mary also enjoyed reading, shopping, going on vacation, and eating out at restaurants.
She was a very kind woman and saw good in everyone. She loved animals and tending to her flowers in her garden.
She is survived by her children: Anne Miraglia (husband James), John Freitas (wife Madeline), and James Monteiro Jr. (wife Norma) all of Fall River; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Mary was the sister of the late Ora Dias and Virginia Sinerio.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mary’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, Jan. 20th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael’s Church. Private interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
