Obituary

Donald Beck, 92, of Ledyard died Jan. 9, 2021, at Avalon Health Center after a battle with dementia and COVID-19. Born March 4, 1928, in Brooklyn N.Y. to William Beck and Marie Peters Beck.
He served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany during World War II. After his service he went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College and his Master of Science from Long Island University. He enjoyed a long and successful career with Pfizer as a microbiologist retiring in 1993 after 42 years of service.
He loved camping, hiking, biking and traveled extensively with his wife of 55 years. He enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and sports. He was an accomplished photographer and fulfilled his dream of obtaining his pilot’s license and publishing a novel.
He is survived by two sons, Peter Beck and Paul Beck; and one daughter Janice Brown; as well as five grandchildren, Corey Beck, Megan Anderson, Morgan Brown, Erin Laman and Kelley Laman; and two great-grandchildren, Ashton Wood and Kristina Anderson. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Priscilla Kay Beck; and his son Matthew Beck.
The family thanks members of the Avalon staff for their compassionate care during these difficult times. Due to COVID-19 a private graveside service will be held. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
