Fall River – Julia Simbro, age 90 and a lifelong resident Fall River, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 at the Fall River Jewish Home. Julia was the beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Simbro and the daughter of the late Manuel & Francelina (Nunes) Rapoza.
Prior to retiring, Julia worked for various garment factories as a sewing machine operator. She was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church.
Julia is fondly remembered for always enjoying the company of family and friends, anytime, day or night. Friday night tea “with the kids” was a ritual. Julia loved being surrounded by her family and just enjoying the conversations with a smile. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, she loved trimming a “real” tree and decorating the house. As a hobby, Julia enjoyed flower arranging, so much so she attended classes at BCC. Chatting on the porch with Evelyn Silva, and watering the garden with Orminda “Mrs. Botelho”, her two best friends, always brought her joy. But the fondest memory of Julia is her love for her husband Tom, and the wonderful home they grew together.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Simbro (wife Elizabeth) of Bristol, RI, Deborah Mello (late husband William) of Fall River, and Cynthia Lachance (husband Jeff) of Methuen, MA; four grandchildren: Will Mello, Melissa McHenry, Julia Lachance, and Maryann Simbro; six great grandchildren: Kelsey, Matthew, Jaime, Alex, Camryn, and Sebastian; several nieces & nephews. Julia was the sister of the late Joseph & Manuel Rapoza, Evelyn Machado, Dorothy & Irene Ferreira, and Celia Moniz.
The family would like to thank the Fall River Jewish Home for the love and care they gave their mother. Donations can be made to the Fall River Jewish home in her memory.
Julia’s visitation will take place in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Friday, Jan. 22nd from 8:30-9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. Michael’s Church. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
