Obituary

FALL RIVER – John M. Lima “Johnny Barry”, 91, passed away on Jan. 7, 2021 after declining health over the past few years.

A lifelong resident of Fall River, He is survived by his brother Joseph M. Lima, his nieces Elaine Tavares, Karen Rezendes & JoAnn Viera, nephews John Lima & Ricky Lima, his extended family, godson Tony Luz, goddaughter Shaina (Luz) Jimenez, Cory Luz & Jackie Luz, several great nieces & nephews. He was the son of the late Manuel M. Lima Sr. & Maria (Rodrigues) Lima, and the brother of the late Manuel M. Lima Jr.

John was a member of the MA National Guard, and a retired laborer for Local 610, last employed by Bailey Builders. He was a no-frills man, material things did not mean much, but he loved to have fun and enjoy life to the fullest.

In his early years, he played baseball, fast pitch softball, and won a championship at the Boys Club, playing hand ball. He later also played golf and was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed going to the horse races, dog track, playing cards with friends, & visiting the Casino to play his favorite machine “Mr. Cashman”.

John was a member of the Republican Club, & the border City Club, where he was the longest and oldest member. A kind man who helped many people in need, he made a lot of friends in his life and valued everyone of them.

A special thank you to Bristol Elders for all the services they provided for him over the years, especially his homemakers, Maria & Maria.

John’s preplanned wishes were to be cremated first and then be buried in his family’s plot in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at a later date, with no other services planned.
