Mary Alice (Killion) Callen, age 59, of Andover, formerly a longtime resident of Winchester, passed away on January 5, 2021. She was the beloved wife of James M. “Jim” Callen.
Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of Alice (McCarthy) Killion of Somerville. Mary was the proud mother of 10 children, who were all raised in Winchester, and was also known as the “second mother” to many. She was notorious as both a fierce mom and shopper. While raising little children, she could always be counted on to search out the latest and hottest toys for her kids, and they remembered her calling around to the stores to uncover the inventory status so she could secure the purchase of their most sought-after plaything.
Mary could also be counted on as a staunch advocate for her kids, kids who looked to her as a mother-figure, and basically anyone who needed a helping hand. With such a large, involved, family, her kids recalled that she considered motherhood as her “hobby”. They also remembered her skills as a great cook, which clearly took up a lot of her time.
In addition to her husband, Jim, and her mother, Alice, Mary is lovingly survived by her children: Jason Doyle and wife Michelle of Billerica, Timothy Doyle and wife Jaclyn of Winchester, Michelle Doyle of Franklin, Caitlin Tranchita and husband Steven of Dracut, Jared Callen and wife Brianna of Burlington, Ariel Hypolite and husband Kieran of Braintree, Justin Callen, Dylan Callen, and Holly Callen, all of Andover. Her son, Bobby Doyle, predeceased her. She was the adored “Mimi” of Skyla, Joseph, Liam, Preston, Cain, Mia, Ivy, Trevor, Travis, Ava, Remy, Bree, Avery and Theodore, and is further survived by her cherished Bichan Frise, “Duffy”.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visit briefly with the family at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Sunday, January 10 from 2-5PMand are reminded to enter through the front door, wear masks, and practice social-distancing. Funeral Services and burial are private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, 209 Broadway, Saugus, MA 01906.
