Eugene T. "Sooner" Beckward, age 77 of Brockton, died unexpectedly on January 5, 2021. He was the loving husband of Margaret (Hoban) Beckward. Eugene was born in Ridgeley, W. Virginia and raised in Cumberland, Maryland. Following his graduation from Lasalle High School, he joined the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa as a communications specialist during the Viet Nam War.
Eugene was a longtime member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 4.
In his free time, Eugene enjoyed socializing and working around his house and yard. A family oriented man, he loved spending time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a strict but protective father.
In addition to his wife, Eugene is survived by his children Lisa Ledden and her husband Bill of Maple Shade, NJ; Julie Beckward of Brockton, wife of the late Peggy Jenner, Eugene T. Beckward ll, and his wife Nicole of Buford, GA and Stacey DeLorenzo and her husband Casey of Bridgewater. He leaves ten grandchildren Joshua, Victoria, Alexander, Anthony, Terrence, Darius, Marcus, Justin, Alexandria and Kristiana and 4 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Leroy Beckward and Lynn Simms both of Maryland.
Visitation for family and friends will be in Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Friday 2-3 pm followed by a private funeral service for family only. In following COVID guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing observed. There is a maximum of 25 people in the funeral home at any one time.
