Obituary



Kathryn Coombs Cauble passed away on December 27, 2020 at the Arbors of Bedford after a long illness. She was raised on a farm in Seabrook, NH and graduated from the Concord Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. After nursing in New Hampshire and Oakland, CA she joined the Army in 1967 and served as an OR nurse at the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Vietnam. She received the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. In 1972, she graduated from Catholic University with a BSN and moved to Bangor ME to begin her career as a nursing educator. She served as Director of the Nursing program at the University of Maine at Augusta and the Dean of Health Care Programs at Bunker Hill Community College. During this time she also received a Masters of Education from the University of Maine, a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso, and completed a post graduate program as a nurse practitioner at MGH. She enjoyed teaching and liked and was liked by her students.
Upon semi-retirement she moved to Effingham, NH with her husband John. She was a part-time clinical instructor at The Memorial Hospital and a Nurse Practitioner with Dr. Donald Derse in Conway. She also worked in public health emergency planning and, with John, founded the Carroll County Coalition for Public Health. She was active in Effingham, founding the Friends of the Effingham Library, served as Supervisor of the Checklist, and was active in the Effingham Democrats. She was an active letter writer and received the Paul Wellstone Award from the Carroll County Democrats.
She is survived by her husband John Michael Cauble and her son Benjamin Cauble of Bedford, her sister Mary Stefanski of Stowe VT, and numerous nieces and nephews.
