It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald A. “Donnie” Buchanio, 84, of Franklin. A beloved husband, patriarch, neighbor, and friend, he passed on Saturday, January 2, 2021, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, and selflessness.
Born May 3, 1936 in Milford to the late Anthony “Butch” and Madeline (Pisani) Buchanio, he was a lifelong resident of Franklin. He graduated from the local high school in 1954 and honorably served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. Soon after, he married his darling wife, Lucia “Lucille” (Deloia) Buchanio, and the pair settled into his childhood home where they spent 57 loving years watching generations of their family grow.
At the heart of Donnie was his devotion to his work and family: he spent over 40 years as an employee of Crosby Valve & Gauge, never missing a day of work, and over 57 years as a father and grandfather, never missing a game, concert, or event.
He had the biggest appreciation for the simplest things in life: an afternoon cup of coffee, naps on the front porch, and going for car rides with his wife with no real destination. He loved fifties music, macaroons, pasta fagioli, and the occasional shot of Crown Royal with a Backwoods cigar. But above all, it was his time with his family that meant the most – the times he gave the warmest hugs, the smiles ear to ear, and the laughs right from his belly.
Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lucille; his four children: Donna, Donald Jr. “Tony”, Kristen, and Nicholas, and his wife, Alexis; five grandchildren: Kalen, Alexandra, Samantha, Jackson, and Jocelyn; and two great-grandchildren (the littles): Chase and Charleigh. He is also survived by his loving sister, Ann Lee of Sandwich and her husband Jack, as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Although a private viewing will be held, relatives and friends are invited to join the precession departing from Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. to St. Mary’s Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 7th. Due to Covid-19, face coverings and social distancing are required for all who attend the graveside service.
