George Paul Maher 83, of Uxbridge, passed away, Friday January 1, 2021 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, following an illness.
Born July 17, 1937, in Malden the youngest child of the late John H. Maher and Madeline B. (Farrar) Maher-Hudon, he was a former resident of the Boston area, Franklin and Blackstone before settling in Uxbridge.
He was raised and educated in Malden and Townsend, leaving high school to serve in the United States Army. He was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne. George had many jobs before he became an auto worker for General Motors Corporation, where he retired and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.
George was a quiet man, who enjoyed spending time with his family, watching & attending NASCAR (especially his favorite driver the late Dale Earnhardt), Red Sox and Patriot's games. He was also a bike enthusiast, he had many pedal bike and motorcycles over the years.
He is survived by his children; daughter Caroline Maher of Perry, Maine and grandchildren Derek Dobachesky, Ryan & Sean Maher and Ashton O'Reilly; daughter Linda T. Hallett, her husband Richard and grandchildren Emily and Richard M. of Franklin; son Ronald P. Maher, his wife Kristen (Yurt) and grandson Ryan P. of Blackstone; son Paul B. Maher, his longtime girlfriend Mary-Beth Woodrow (Quinn) and grandson Phillip of Uxbridge and son John W. Maher of Uxbridge. In addition, Samantha Tiza (O'Connell) and Gabe Woodrow held a special place in George's life.
He was the brother of the late John W. Maher and Rosemary Morgan and ex-husband of the late Matilda P. Maher.
Due to Covid-19, a private family service will be held.
