Michael R. Counterman, age 28, of Canton passed away at Mass General Hospital, on December 31st. Born in Boston, he was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School and UMass, Boston, in 2011. Those who knew Michael experienced his humor, warmth, love of sports, selflessness, generosity, courage and strength. All have said he was an inspiration.
Michael was very active in Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, PPMD. He was a member of the Adult Advisory Committee for PPMD -- meeting with members of Congress in Washington DC yearly to ensure the Duchenne community is included in policy decisions, helping other young men with Duchenne navigate their lives as best as possible and imparting critical wisdom to parents and caregivers.
He was employed by his second family, the team at Solid Biosciences in Cambridge. As they said, “He was truly the fabric of our company, he led his life with purpose, passion, commitment, and a wonderful sense of humor.”
He will be sorely missed by his father, Raymond Counterman and his mother Judith Counterman of Canton, his brother, Kevin Counterman of Maine. Also survived by his many aunts and uncles Mary Perdios, Winifred Belmont, Nancy Belmont, and Dorothy Belmont Loring, Wayne Counterman, Paul Counterman, Carolyn (Counterman) Mahone and Craig Counterman. Predeceased by two loving Aunts, Elizabeth Harmon and Irene Quigley, and his adoring Uncle Steve. It has been said with confidence -- we are all better human beings for having known Michael.
