Shirley Jane Johnson Baker, 85, of Tifton passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Tift Regional Medical Center from a sudden illness. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Baker at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021, at Leila United Methodist Church Cemetery in Omega, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate.
Mrs. Baker was born in St. Pauls North Carolina on May 7, 1935 to the late Henry Johnson and Docia Odum Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of thirty three years, Lamar Dewey “Bud” Baker; three brothers, Opie Johnson, John H Johnson, Wilton Johnson; and two sisters, O’Neal Johnson Hickman and Ozelle Powers. She was a homemaker and a member of Omega Methodist Church. She was an exceptional baker and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to cook and bake. Prior to her death, Mrs. Baker was a resident of Tifton Health and Rehabilitative Services where she enjoyed playing BINGO and making bracelets for all of the residents and staff.
Mrs. Baker is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Pat Baker of Lenox and Ricky and Yolanda Baker of Tifton; three sisters, Estelle Tolmich of Houston, Texas, Ethelene Shaw of Rex, North Carolina and Volene (Jimmie) Britt of St. Pauls, North Carolina; four grandchildren Eugenia (Josh) Moore, Kimberly (Brandon) Letson, Amanda Wiley, Kristy (Michael) Music; six great-grandchildren, Ryan (Katelynn) Moore, Chloe Moore, Chase Wiley, Riley Letson, Hudson and Josie Music; and several nieces and nephews.
