Obituary

Betty Reeves Sims, 92, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Senior Care at Station Exchange in Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Brother Rick Ellis officiating.

Ms. Sims was born November 7, 1928, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Rodolphus W. & Edith Bishop Reeves. She graduated from Fitzgerald High School and worked for many years at First Baptist Church as a secretary and later maintenance and grounds supervisor. Ms. Sims managed the Summit Apartments and was honored by the City of Fitzgerald for her Civic Pride in the Beautification of businesses. She will be remembered for helping others and being the butterfly and flower lady. She was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and visited assisted living facilities to minister to the residents. Ms. Sims was a member of First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served on the disaster relief team.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Harris of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Pamela Harris Lowery & Teddy of Bowden and Carl L. “Chip” Harris, II & Clara of Richmond Hill; great-grandchildren: Taylor Morgan of Jacksonville, Alabama, Tanner Langley of Bowden, Landen Harris of Bowden, Evan Harris of Richmond Hill, Alina Dady of Richmond Hill and Amelia Dady of Richmond Hill; two sisters: Shirley Coxen of Fitzgerald and Martha McDowell of Stockbridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Alan Sims; and three brothers: R.W. Reeves, Larry Reeves and Robert Paul Reeves.
