Albertina "Abby" (Sousa) Costa, 92, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 at the Oaks Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Antone L. Costa.
Born and raised in Fall River, the daughter of the late Virginia (Sousa) Teixeira, she lived in New Bedford for many years. She and her husband enjoyed several years of retirement in Bluffton, South Carolina.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mrs. Costa was formerly employed as a surgical instrument technician at St. Luke’s Hospital until her retirement.
She had attended the Dartmouth Social Day Care, and was a very active member at the Oaks – playing Bingo, cards, scrabble, and participating in sing-a-longs, and various games and social activities with her new friends.
Abby loved spending time with her family – and was especially good at playing cards, beating most people who dared to play against her. She enjoyed many travels and visits with her family, including trips to Disney World, Hawaii, Lake Tahoe and Universal Studios.
She is survived by her children, Antone J. Costa of Henderson, NV, Elizabeth C. Bryant of New Bedford, Mary H. Ashley of New Bern, NC, and Lillian M. Forgue of New Bedford; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Due to current pandemic restrictions, her funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
