Roy P. Kurtz, age 77, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer, on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020. He was born on March 6, 1943 in Holyoke, a son of the late John and Dorothy M. (Guth) Kurtz. Roy served in the US Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He was a communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Roy loved to fish and travel. He was a member of the Moose Family Lodge #1849 and he was a coach for the Aldenville AJAC’s sports teams. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diane (Simard) Kurtz of Ludlow; 2 sons, Shawn M. Kurtz and his wife Cristina of Patchogue, NY and James D. Kurtz and his wife Amy of Ludlow; 1 daughter, Cheryl J. Schipper and her husband Derek of Hanover, MA; 1 brother Alvin Kurtz of Holyoke; 9 grandchildren, Matthew, Mikayla, Ava, Emma, Ryan, Stella, Raymond, Connor and Daniel; 2 great grandchildren, Cayden and Steven and his Father and Mother-in-law, Roger and Doris Simard of Ludlow. He is predeceased by his brother Robert J. Kurtz and also by his sisters-in-law Sheila Kurtz and Lorraine Kurtz. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tues, Jan. 5, 2021 at 12:30 PM in Mary Mother of Hope Church. Burial will be private. The Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
