Joseph (Joe) E. Lewis, 69, of South Dartmouth, formerly from Stratham, NH, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughters by his side after a courageous, lengthy battle with cancer. He was the husband of Elaine Jenkins, they were married for over 15 years.
Born in Joliet, IL, son of the late Paul and Dolores (Kubinski) Lewis and brother Jack of Joliet, IL. Graduate of Lockport West High School, Class of 1969. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from August of 1971 to December of 1979. He received his MBA from Golden Gate University in 1980. Before he retired this past year, he worked as an IT Project Manager at AMAG Pharmaceuticals for 12 years.
Joe was hardworking and will always be regarded as a man of integrity, speaking the truth and a mentor to many. He was an extraordinary Dad who would drop anything to be there for his two daughters. Joe and his wife researched and planned for five years an epic road trip in their RV which they purchased only two months before his diagnosis last fall. They shared a mutual love of outdoor adventure and believed that getting out of their comfort zone will create incredible and unforgettable experiences.
Including his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Katelyn Lewis and husband Isaac Sussman of Somerville, MA and Jillian Lewis of Amesbury, MA; two step-daughters Heather Ames and husband Matt Elrick of Baltimore, MD and Rachel Ames of San Francisco, CA; two granddaughters, Rosie Jo and Amelia; and a sister Annamarie Gladkowski of Coal City, IL.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
