FALL RIVER – Gustavo F. Sousa, also known as “Sequeira”, age 79, passed away on December 27, 2020 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the husband of the late Maria L. Sousa. Born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Fernando and Fernandina Sousa. He started working as a photographer for Fotografia Nobrega in Ponta Delgada when he was just 14 years old. His boss, Gilberto Nobrega Sr. took my dad under his wing and trained him how to do photography work, including retouching. My dad had a natural ability for drawing artwork. When he immigrated to the U.S. in 1977, he teamed up with his army buddy John Rodrigues and together they opened Ideal Photo Studio on Broadway and Division Streets in Fall River. He was well known for his wedding portraits and studio work in Ponta Delgada, Canada, and the U.S., including California. My dad also served in the Portuguese Army in Mozambique as a trauma medic.
Gustavo is survived by his children Jorge, Gustavo and Maria Sousa, all of Fall River and 3 grandchildren Amanda Costa, Logan and Dylan Sousa.
