Normand J. Demers, 80, of Fairhaven passed away at home on Saturday December 26, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Audrey J. (Fisher) Demers; they had been married for 61 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Clarence and Eva (Bernier) Demers, he lived in Fairhaven for most of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Normand served as a firefighter for the Fairhaven Fire Department for 25 years until his retirement. After retiring, he owned and operated a painting and wallpaper contracting business.
An avid golfer, he had been a member of the Marion Golf Course, Rochester Golf Course, and Little Harbor Golf Course. He had also achieved two holes-in-one during his golfing days. He was also an avid New England Patriots fan and attended games with family and friends and enjoyed many more at home with Audrey.
He was always helping his family and friends, especially with painting projects. He was always active and kept a positive outlook even during his multi-year battle with cancer. Normand loved to travel with Audrey and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known as a “donut connoisseur”, coined by those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife Audrey; three children, Stephen Demers and wife Natasha, Alan Demers and wife Marilyn, and Suzan Lenling and husband Scott; his brother, Edmond Demers and wife Robin; three grandchildren, Eric Demers and wife Rikki, Andrew Pacheco and Samantha, and Kevin Pacheco and Nicole; four great-grandchildren, Calvin and Evelyn Demers, and Zachary and Asher Pacheco; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Albert Demers and Mona Grew.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday Dec. 31, 2020 at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday Dec. 30 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
